Our tech culture
The H&M group’s Business Tech function aims to continuously surprise and delight our customers and accelerate our business - by releasing the power of people, data and technology.
We are building a world-class headless commerce solution to be able to be fast and flexible no matter where in the world we meet the customer. To accomplish this we put a lot of trust in our engineers and believe that having a strong engineering culture, where everyone is a leader, will be key to get there.
What we are building
We are building up cloud-native API services to power our global online sites and store networks, combined with React.js on the front-end and iOS and Android apps to make an engaging and relevant experience for our customers. We build in many technologies, but we primarily use Java and Spring Boot on the backend (with some C#.Net thrown in), with storage solutions ranging from Redis to MySQL and Oracle. We work with a multi-cloud environment, but primarily in Azure, and we often use Kubernetes (AKS) clusters to deploy. Sometimes we build simple script-based Azure Function apps to get more basic services deployed for our customers. We have a deep and broad dataset that we process with python to build AI insights and provide one-to-one recommendations to our users at scale.
We build for modern web browsers, publish mobile apps for iOS and Android, and also build custom solutions for devices in store. We want to re-use services where we can, and promote the idea of inner source as much as possible, sharing and contributing to source code across teams. We use Azure DevOps repositories and pipelines to automate builds and testing.
In Business Tech, fashion, design, customer value, tech and data are in our DNA. We have a customer focused mindset, embrace our strong values and release the power of our people to innovate and develop products that make a meaningful impact to customers all over the world.
