Role: E-commerce Merchandiser

Master of Science, Business and Economics – Business Administration - Linnaeus University & Master’s Degree, Textile management with Specialization Fashion Management - The Swedish School of Textiles.

H&M journey so far: Joined H&M Online Sales in September 2017 and started as E-commerce Merchandiser for the Russian online market – responsible for the kid’s concept. Now working as E-commerce Merchandiser in the Central Europe team, one of H&M’s biggest markets – responsible for the concepts Ladies & Divided.

Hi Sandra, tell us a bit more about yourself and why you like working within e-commerce at H&M!
I grew up in Sweden surrounded by fashion and strong entrepreneurs. My vision has always been to work in the fast-paced retail industry, were you need to be creative and take fast action. Before I joined Online Sales at H&M, I worked with e-commerce at another fashion company. What tempted me to apply for the E-commerce Merchandiser role at H&M was the great adventure within e-commerce that lies ahead of the company. It felt like a natural, fun and challenging next step.

The best thing about working with e-commerce at H&M is the great opportunity to inspire and communicate with customers through our sites across the world. It is very exciting. We have such a fun adventure ahead of us. H&M’s expansion and all the developments in technology really inspire and challenge us every day.

How would you describe your role as a Merchandiser at H&M?
From day one you get a lot of responsibility, which is really motivating. It truly shows how much H&M believes in you. You are responsible for your own concept in terms of planning the most commercial store, net selling and stock management. It’s all about offering the right product at the right time and to satisfy the customer in the best possible way. The combination of analysis and commercial execution gives you a strong feeling of ownership – it’s almost like having your own store and driving your own business! I like to think we are all entrepreneurs that find ways to drive growth and make our customers happy.

What can you do improve the selling on your concept?
I’m working in one of the biggest teams at Online Sales, which is fun because there are so many inspiring colleagues that you can learn from. I work closely together with all functions in my team, but mainly with two E-commerce Visual Merchandisers on the Ladies & Divided concepts. The key to succeed is to have a tight collaboration and to drive the store together. I also work with other teams at Online Sales as well as other functions at H&M. We are all one team, and that’s something that we truly benefit from. The office is filled with talented people who are happy to share their knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit.

You seem to enjoy your role as E-commerce Merchandiser at Online Sales. What are your favourite parts?
I truly enjoy it! The E-commerce Merchandising role has a good balance of analysing and commercial planning, which gives you a chance to be both strategic and creative. The combination of analysing the selling, the customers’ behaviour on the site and taking action makes the role dynamic and gives you variation. I love that you can instantly see the effect of the actions you take.

Also, I find the growth adventure super exciting. We are forming the future way of shopping and at Online Sales we get to do it together, with a great team spirit. I am also very happy to work for a company with such a strong culture. The environment is very social, and you have activities with your team as well as with the entire Online Sales. This makes it feel like more than just work!
