Age: 25 years
Education: BA Fashion at Shenkar College in Engineering and Design in Israel.
Journey so far: Autumn design student placement at ladies department. Before I started to study fashion design at Shenkar in Tel Aviv, I went to an American high school in Paris. After school I went back to Israel to do the military service for two years. I was in the secret forces.
Hi, who are you?
Hi, I’m Neta and originally from Israel and I’m in my last year of my BA in Fashion Design. I’m a knitting freak and luckily for me Sweden is in the forefront of knitting so I have learned new techniques while living here.
Why did you choose to do an internship at H&M?
I’ve always wished to work in a creative field and to have an impact on people and their everyday life. That is why I decided to study fashion design. So naturally I’ve always wanted to work in a commercial company. H&M is a company that has a big influence and reaches out to many people. It’s a dream come true for me to be here.
Tell us what you do as an intern at H&M?
As an intern I get to be part of the design team. I participate in all meetings, fittings and I learned so much about how the design process works at H&M.
What was the biggest surprise during the program?
I was surprised by how positive the environment is at H&M. Even though H&M is a big company a lot of emphasis is put on how we can make the world a better place by doing even the smallest things. Starting with recycling in the office going on to using organic cotton or recycled polyester whenever possible in the collections. It’s quite amazing the importance of strong values and morals here at H&M.
What was your biggest challenge during the internship?
It is never easy being new anywhere. It takes a while to understand the system and the process. I found the people I met at H&M so warm and welcoming. As an intern you are offered courses about H&M and certain computer programs that are used which makes you feel as comfortable as possible right from the start.
What was the best part of your internship?
My favorite thing about H&M is the value of teamwork. In a team there are many different skills and opinions involved which I believe leads to having the best possible products.
Do you feel that H&M had prepared you for your future career?
Definitely, I learnt so much during my internship period. I understand how the design procedure works and have acquired many new skills. I gained knowledge about the computer programs that are a part of this process and I’ve learned how to be part of a team.
Any advice for future interns?
I advise to absorb and soak up as much as you can while you are here. It’s a great opportunity and you learn something new every day.
