The Construction team are responsible for building our stores across the entire H&M Group and making sure the vision is turned into a reality. They form part of the Expansion team and work closely with Store Development and Leasing to ensure we open the most loved stores in the world. On a day to day basis, you could be out on a building site helping manage general contractors or helping create a construction budget for Leasing to analyze the commercial viability of a potential new store. Alternatively, you could be coming up with design solutions for new Brands so they can reduce their build costs.
Which skills are required from a Project Manager and what are the core responsibilities?
You are responsible for managing and handing over projects from Expansion to the core business. This could be fitting out a new store from scratch or it could be refitting an existing store with the latest interior programme. It could be fitting out a support office or managing the build of a logisitics centre. The PM must ensure the projects are built in the quickest possible time for the lowest possible investment whilst ensuring we secure the best quality for our customer. You should be confident, a good communicator and have fantastic leadership skills as you will be responsible for a large team of consultants. Being organized, fast paced and good under pressure is imperative as we work to incredibly tight timescales. Entrepreneurial spirit and problem solving are also important as all projects encounter hurdles along the way
Where this role could lead you?
Within the H&M group Project Managers form part of the Expansion department which encompasses many different roles. These include Leasing, Store Development, Project Management and Estates Management. The high-profile nature of the role means that you get exposure to a variety of functions within the business and senior stakeholders. Many PM’s have gone to work in different areas of Expansion both in the UK and international markets.
